Ipoh Road Yong Tau Foo

Guess this place needs no further introduction as it has been visited numerous times by food bloggers, far and near alike. However, operating from an old bungalow, this restaurant does not situated exactly along Jalan Ipoh but rather, it’s at Jalan Segambut, just off Jalan Duta.

According to a friend who’re working in with Shell at Damansara Heights, this place is a favourite lunch spot on Sunday afternoon for those who needs to work on weekend. And since it is originally a bungalow, parking space are available inside the bungalow compound but very limited, so be there early or risk parking your car further. I was there twice on weekend afternoon and the place was packed with hungry lunch crowd.

One thing I like it here is the workers… they still employs foreign workers from Indonesia but majority of them are Chinese aunties! These charming aunties are friendly and move around rather fast than young ones (do not underestimate senior citizens!). Get an ordering chit from them, write the number of pieces of yong tau foo you prefer and pass it back to them.

No fancy yong tau foo here (unlike Kwong Hong in Gunung Rapat, Ipoh), just the usual fish paste-stuffed red/green chilli, bittergourd, white/brown beancurd, brinjal/aubergine, tau fu pok, lady’s fingers (okra), beancurd roll. Not forgetting the deep fried wan tan, sui kow, beancurd roll, pork balls, fish balls etc. Unlike Ipoh, yong tau foo in Klang Valley are usually eaten together with rice, not noodles. Everything are priced at RM1 per piece (KY Speaks said it was RM0.70 only 3 years ago). Other than yong tau foo, there are other stalls selling rojak, tauhu bakar and siew pao.
