Ipoh Mali Talak Sombong!

Soon Lee Bak Kut Teh @ Pasir Putih, Ipoh

My first post on Bak Kut Teh. *blush*

Bak kut teh wasn’t really my type of food (well, I won’t even suggest “Let’s go have bak kut teh!”) mainly because I’m not a big fan of pork and the spare parts but if someone else suggest it, I won’t say no. You can call me complicated.

I don’t remember how many times I came here before but it’s always crowded on Sundays. One might need to wait averagely 10 to 15 minutes to get a table. Service is fast though and you don’t need to wait long for your orders to arrive.

Chinese tea has become a synonym with bak kut teh meal in Ipoh where you can see there’s a teapot on every table. Here, you can either order the tea from the shop or bring your own precious tea leaves. Hot water is available at numerous corners of the shop for refill. Yes, if you wanna refill, you gotta do it yourself.

We ordered one person serving of the Chu geok chou (pork trotters in vinegar) which came with radish, some dried chillies, garlic and pork trotters itself. I didn’t touch it as it doesn’t appeal to me. According to the only two guys (2 out of 7) who had it, it’s pretty good.

The main actor. Loads of pork cutlets, taufu pok and pig intestines, brimming in the hot herbal broth. We were happy with the pork as they’re very tender and literally separates from the bones easily. The broth however was a bit mild, which might disappoints those who love thicker broth with stronger herbal taste. The herbal broth is refillable with no extra charge, just request from the waiter/waitress. I usually would prefer to have some greens to balance the meal but these people were just plain carnivores.

No forget the usual yau char kuey (Chinese crullers) too. If my memory serves me correct, I think one plate costs RM 2.00.

And we just love to throw them all into the hot broth before we savour them. Just look at the plates of crullers we had that day!
