Floggers threw WMW a birthday celebration and for me, it’s another pre-birthday celebration… Hahaha. It was 31st October, we had a small but wonderful celebration with Precious Pea and Boo_licious.
First stop, Wong Ah Wah Barbequed Chicken Wings at Jalan Alor. My second time here.
During my previous visit, I found that their ikan bakar is good, so I recommend to have this again. We opted for stingray as WMW does not fancy fish and we think that stingray has the least fishy taste. The fish was grilled to perfection; slightly crispy skin while still retain its juiciness inside with sufficient marinade. Too bad that the dipping sauce that came with it was not that great.
The girls had a good experience with the Kam Heong lala before so we ordered it again this round. Sadly, the lalas were quite small, tastes kinda bland and lack of “wok hei” too.
Of course, when come to Wong Ah Wah, one couldn’t miss their charcoal barbequed chicken wings. Sweet. Sticky. Smoky flavour. Juicy inside. Crispy skin. Sufficient marinade. Best eaten warm. Gosh, I’m craving for some now.
Grilled sotong which I think will be better if they cut them into smaller parts. Tastewise, I think it’s okay although Precious Pea and WMW said it’s a bit salty.
We then hopped over to Muar Restaurant, just at the other street nearby.
The dish that everyone’s raving about, deep fried eggs or ja dan which means Bomb. To create the flaky texture and net look alike shape, the eggs were deep fried in hot oil instead of shallow fry and then drizzled with soy sauce. Simple but very satisfying.
Another dish on WMW’s list, The Butter Kai Lan. The leaves were shredded, deep fried and then tossed with butter and curry leaves. And yes, I DO feel that I’m eating kacang putih… haha… prolly because of the curry leaves and the crispy texture of the veggie.
Dessert, RM1 cendol which served in a small bowl. According to Precious Pea, their cendol might turn out to be too sweet sometimes, so it’s safer to tell them your preference before you order.
And lastly, although we’re quite full from the previous meals… we want dessert! And so, we walked over to Max! Kitchen & Wines which is located at the same street as Muar Restaurant. Precious Pea mentioned about the new Latte ice cream and we picked that immediately, together with chocolate souffle. When it arrives to our table, we’re surprised to see the candle, such a pretty sight! Then we found that the flame somehow wont die out even we blew it few times! Hahaha! And the Latte ice cream was true to it’s name, very aromatic with coffee flavour and not too sweet.
Thanks again to Boo_licious and Precious Pea for taking the efforts to plan the celebration on such short notice, I enjoyed myself thoroughly with good food and good company. And Happy Belated Birthday To WMW again!
