Nong & Jimmy Thai Seafood BBQ @ Taman Cahaya, Ampang, KL

What were you doing during the few days holiday on the recently Independence Day celebration? I was at home since the bus ticket to Ipoh were fully sold out 2 weeks before the holiday starts. Most of my friends/floggers/bloggers have their own plans for the long weekend except me, so I ended up makan diri sendiri for two and a half day. *sobs*

Fortunately, on the third day, I got a surprise call from WMW, saying that she’ll be coming to Cheras with Jackson to have dinner with me (Yay! *jumping up and down*) and asked me to figure out where to dine. Immediately, I thought of a Thai seafood place in Ampang and without hesitation, I suggest that place.

We finally reached at Nong & Jimmy at Taman Cahaya, after made several calls to my friend, asking for directions. WMW claimed that she came here before but that was few years back. Jackson on the other hand, never been here or heard about it before.

We had the Thai deep fried crullers with pandan kaya which is freshly fried upon ordering. I ordered 2 plates of this at first but then:

WMW: 2 plates enough ah? Make it 3!
Jackson: Whoa..! I think that’s too much laa.
Me: Jackson, believe me, later you’ll say, “It’s not enough laa!”
WMW: Yalah, it’s very good, you know.
Jackson: @.@”

Ahem… guess that he’s freaked out by our greediness. Anyway, we only ordered 2 plates as the dishes started to come not long after that.

Thai Mango Salad. Shredded half-ripen mangoes tossed with chopped onions, peanuts, chopped chillies and dried cuttlefish. We hearts this a lot for it’s not too sour, just nice.

Me being a non seafood fan, felt in love with their sotong bakar (grilled squid). The slightly charred squid gave a pleasant barbequed, smoky flavour. I had this just on it’s own, without dipping them into any chilli sauce.

Of course we can’t miss the Tom Yam Seafood soup. Loaded with goodies such as prawns, squid rings, button mushrooms etc. The soup itself is very flavourful, with just the right amount of spiciness and sourness. Milder version is available upon request.

And finally, we ended the meal with one portion of Black Pepper Crab. The crab, needless to say, was very fresh and we took our own sweet time licking and sucking the black pepper sauce glazed crab shells. (Precious Pea, we shall come here together one day!)

Thanks to dear WMW and Jackson again for the wonderful company.

Jackson’s Birthday @ Restoran King Crab, Kelana Jaya, PJ

Sorry Jackson, for I only post this up now. ^^”

We threw our beloved celebrity flogger, Jackson a birthday dinner last month at King Crab Restaurant. If you’d been following the other floggers’ blog (which is on the right side of this blog), you would have heard about King Crab as our Precious Pea was their regular customer here till we crowned her the title Ms. President of King Crab.

Me on the other hand, was my first time here, along with Nigel, Allan and Teckiee.

Unlike most Chinese restaurants which serve peanuts as starters, King Crab serves our local acar, one of my favourite dish. This is just what we need to perk up our appetite for the night!

Ah, before that, we had a pleasant surprise. Teckiee brought over some bagels from Vienna Bagels, KLCC!

Wonder why the bagels look like doughnuts? We have no idea, we tell you. Ok, now although they do resemble Dunkin Donuts or Big Apple Donuts, these bagels’ texture were a bit hard.

See how happy our Jackson was while opening his pressie from Allan and Nigel. :p

Nigel also brought some kuih koci… very good stuff.

Dishes arrived finally. Drunken Lala with wolfberries, ginger, Chinese wine and bird’s eye chillies. Unlike the one we had at Mei Chi Xuan which is the sweet version, King Crab’s version gave a slightly spicy aftertaste. It would be a good dish to have on a cold, rainy day.

Precious Pea also ordered their Guiness Stout Pork Ribs. Each pork ribs were thoroughly coated with a layer of caramelised, sticky sauce… yummy!

Kailan cooked in two different way. The leaves were firstly separated from the stalks, shredded, then deep fried and tossed with anchovies and shredded cuttlefish. The stalks on the other hand, were just stir-fried with garlic. Interesting combination.

Cheong Sau Meen (Longevity Noodle) for the birthday boy! They gave a generous amount of chicken meat (Nigel claimed that they’re pork, but I say it’s chicken :p ) but I found that the noodle is kinda tasteless. The gravy came with it was just mediocre.

Everyone’s recommendation – Salted Egg Yolk Squid. Each pieces of the deep fried squids were thoroughly coated with salted egg yolk, really good. Very sinful stuff but we love them!

The favourites among the floggers, Butter Crab. For your information, King Crab DOES NOT use margarine as substitute to butter in this dish, they use real butter. That’s why the gravy was lip smackingly good, coupled with the fresh crabs… heaven. If you’re to order this, do remember to lap up the butter gravy with the accompanied mantou.

Tilapia baked with salt crust. Similar to Mei Chi Xuan’s but instead of stuffing the chillies, garlic and ginger mixture into the fish, King Crab serve the sauces along with the fish. One of them was their home made green chilli sauce which you can purchase from the counter. Buy 10, free 3. :)

As usual, we were busy stuffing ourselves and chat at the same time when we suddenly heard the customers at the next table started to sing “Happy Birthday” to a little girl. We joined in the fun and sang together and guess what, they share a big portion of the birthday cake with us! Jackson is so lucky!

See how happy he is, can’t wait to bite “his” birthday cake. :p

*An entry written in the style of Jackson.

An overdue post… oh my gosh, supposed to write this in July!

Andy and Danny called me out for dinner (that was 9th July!). We met up at Sg. Wang and since we don’t want to eat “mahal mahal” food, Andy suggest we go to to this Hong Kong “char chan teng” inside Sg. Wang Plaza.

Dont know where it is? Just go to Low Yat Plaza and you’ll see the entrance opposite it… LOL!

Hungry… hungry… my stomach was making noise so we quick quick place our order.

Andy had the Pumpkin Fried Rice with Pork Chop, RM15. Just look at the picture, it’s a very big portion with the pumpkin! I “curi” some of the rice to taste, not bad. But he say the pork chop is very hard to bite. He didn’t finish it at the end… so wasted…

Danny ordered the Fried Garlic Pork Chop with Rice, RM7.90. The pork chop is crispy and full of garlic flavour, nice! I also steal a bit of the deep fried “ikan bilis”, which is not the small one but big one… hehe…

I ordered the Spaghetti with Chicken Chop, RM8.90 and I’m loving it! The tomato sauce is quite good, the chicken chop is not very dry and crispy at the outside. But it is strange to eat spaghetti inside a Hong Kong style cafe.

We also order the Fried Squid. Don’t really like it cos it’s too thick, which makes me feel like eating rubber. I won’t recommend all of you to order this…

Overall, their food are just ok to me. I saw they have “char siew” rice too, maybe will drop by next time to try it. Anyone wanna accompany me?
